Now that we’re in the new year and you might be looking to make a positive change to your eating habits just remember, it doesn’t have to be an overwhelming task. A few small changes can have a big impact on your overall health and wellbeing. Amanda from Just a Bite Better Here. (If you need help making these changes, download JaBB and start logging your meals. It’s a first step! From there, you can easily start to identify your own habits and where you want to make changes!)

Here are some simple tips I've gathered to help get you started:

1. Start slow
  • Don’t try to overhaul your entire diet overnight. Start by making one or two small changes at a time, such as swapping sugary snacks for fruit or reducing the amount of processed food you eat.
2. Eat more whole foods
  • Focus on eating more fresh and unprocessed foods such as fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, nuts and seeds. These foods are packed with essential nutrients and will help you feel fuller for longer.  (This is just one of many eating goals you can set for yourself on Just a Bite Better. That’s the best part about creating habits. You can create the ones you want to create - whatever they may be. I’ll help you set some small and achievable goals, you can make these habits, and we’ll grow from there)

3. Don’t skip meals

Eating regularly is important for maintaining your energy levels and ensuring you get all the nutrients you need. Aim to eat at least three meals a day, with small snacks in between if needed.

4. Drink more water

Changing your eating habits can have a profound effect on your life. Eating the right foods can help you lose weight, improve your mood, reduce stress and even reduce the risk of certain diseases.

How can making these small changes help you in the new year?

1. Improved Mood

Eating a balanced diet can help to improve your mood and mental clarity. Eating a diet that’s high in fruits and veggies, lean proteins, whole grains and healthy fats can help to provide the nutrients your brain needs to stay sharp and ward off depression.

2. Increased Energy

Eating balanced meals can help to keep your energy levels up throughout the day. Eating too much processed food or skipping meals can cause your energy levels to drop, leading to fatigue and the desire to snack on unhealthy foods.

 3. Reduced Risk of Disease

Eating a healthy diet can help to reduce your risk of developing certain diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. Eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, lean proteins

But don’t take it from me… I’ve outsourced additional research to some experts in the field.

I collated information from it from the expert of habit building. In "Atomic Habits," James Clear tells us that habits are the compound interest of self-improvement. By making small, incremental changes to our habits, we can achieve remarkable improvements in our lives over time. Clear reminds us that if we understand and change our habits, we can drastically improve our lives.

Just remember to be patient with yourself and don't get discouraged if you slip up – just keep working at it and you will eventually succeed.
